Jaydev College, Naharakanta and JKBK College, Cuttack won the men and women titles respectively in the Utkal University Inter-College Badminton Tournament, which was organized by Utkal University Sports Council (UUSC) here at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall today.
Jayadev College beat BJB College in the men’s final 3-0. BJB College reached the final, defeating Banki College 3-0, P G Vani Vihar 3-2 and S V Nirtar 3-1. Jayadev College got the better of Dhenkanal College 3-1 and IRE 3-0 to book berth in the final.
In the women’s final, JKBK College blanked Rama Devi Women’s College 2-0. On their way to the women’s final, JKBK College prevailed over University Law College and Maharishi College by 2-0 identical margin, while Rama Devi outplayed BJB College and Birla Global Institute also by 2-0 margin.
Government badminton coach Manoj Kumar Sabat handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing ceremony. According to UUSC director Prof Jayanta Kumar Parida, five shuttlers will be selected from the inter-college tournament to represent Utkal University in the East Zone Inter-University Badminton Tournament, scheduled to be held at KIIT University here from October 9.
